Godolphin will launch a two-pronged attack on the Brisbane feature after trainer John O’Shea confirmed both Hauraki and It’s Somewhat in the 2016 Doomben Cup field.

Hauraki has interestingly been unable to return to winning form for more than twelve months, but carries exceptional condition into the Doomben Cup and is primed for a maiden win at the highest level.

Resuming this time for third in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m), the Reset gelding progressed to third in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) before savaging the line for second in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m).

While failing to fire in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), Hauraki ran on for second in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) a fortnight ago and will leave from the rails draw on Saturday, with James McDonald in the saddle.

Resuming this time for sixth in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m), It’s Somewhat posted consecutive wins in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) and Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) before running on for sixth in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).

Having been blocked for a run in the Hollindale Stakes last time, It’s Somewhat has been charged with overcoming barrier 9 in the Doomben Cup.

Our Ivanhowe produced a number of smart effort in autumn and will return from a freshen-up in the 2016 Doomben Cup.

Running second in the Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2520m) and third in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) most notably in spring, Our Ivanhowe returned this year for consecutive fifth place finishes in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) and Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m), but pulled up lame following a hapless run in the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) on March 26th.

Having trialled well in the lead-up to his competitive return, the Soldier Hollow entire will leave from barrier 6 with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.

Volkstok’n’Barrell charged home for third in the Hollindale Stakes last start and could very well receive the run of the race in the Doomben Cup from barrier 5.

A multiple winner at the highest level, Volkstok’n’Barrell won each of the Group 1 Haunui Farm Classic (1600m) and Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) upon resuming this year.
