Pornichet ($4.20) was very convincing when taken out last weekend’s Toowoomba Cup (2150m) with 60.5kgs and has opened as and maintained status as clear favourite in 2015 Doomben Cup betting markets as a result, ahead of Leebaz ($5) and I’m Imposing ($8) with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Pornichet justify favouritism and win the 2015 Doomben Cup, or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Foreteller ($10)

A proven performer at Group 1 level of the distance, Foreteller boxed on for an impressive fourth in the key form-indicating Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) a fortnight ago and offers punters exceptional value for money in 2015 Doomben Cup betting markets at current $10 odds for success. Returning to exceptional condition over the 2014 Spring Carnival, the Dansili gelding placed fourth in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) and third in the Group 2 Dato’Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) on September 20th. Progressing to an impressive fifth in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), Foreteller has been confirmed to be partnered by leading hoop James McDonald and will be tough to beat.

2nd

Leebaz ($5)

Leebaz won the Hollindale Stakes a fortnight ago and memorably ran a close second to champion mare Streama in the 2014 edition of the Doomben Cup, and while needing some luck from barrier 11, is more than capable of a top three finish on Saturday. Posting a career total of seven wins and a further five minors, the Zabeel gelding ran a close second to Gypsy Diamond in the Group 3 JRA Plate (2000m) only a week prior to the Hollindale Stakes. Jockey Jim Byrne has been confirmed to retain the ride and appears to know this horse inside and out.

3rd

Moriarty ($16)

A Group 1 winner, Moriarty was unable to handle the bogged track on the Gold Coast two weeks ago but is sure to relish the conditions of the 2015 Doomben Cup. Securing thirteen wins and as many minors through his 54 career starts to date, the Clodovil gelding has been confirmed to be partnered by leading hoop Hugh Bowman, will leave from the ideal barrier 5 and is more than worth consideration for a bet this weekend at current odds.
