2014 Doomben Cup Betting Preview and Tips

May 16th, 2014

A particularly talented field of ten has been confirmed for this weekend’s featured Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) in Brisbane, offering punters great value from a betting point of view and allowing for several key chances to place a winning bet.

Breaking through for a maiden victory this season in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast last time out, Streama has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite in betting markets for success in the 2014 Doomben Cup, currently offered at odds of $4.20, ahead of Leebaz ($4.40), Akzar ($4.80) and Junoob ($5).

Will Streama claim a fourth victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the 2014 Doomben Cup, or will one of her talented rivals break-through for a maiden?

1st

Streama ($4.20)

The winner of nine races and placing in a further 13 over a total of 33 competitive starts, Streama has been a noted performer over each of her racing preparations since debuting on course at the beginning of 2011. Arguably hitting career best form over the 2013 racing calendar, the Stratum mare was unlucky to finish second in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in winter, continuing to build in experience on her way to claiming the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) on September 21st. Allocated barrier 8, trainer Guy Walter is confident Blake Shinn will once again get the best from Streama this weekend.

2nd

Mr O’Ceirin ($9)

Producing a strong turn of foot to finish second behind Streama in the Hollindale Stakes last time out, Mr O’Ceirin has quickly built to the task this time in and arguably offers punters the best value for money at current $9 odds for a win, or $2.85 to run a place. Claiming ten wins and five places from his thirty competitive starts to date, the Postponed gelding contested a strong and consistent 2013 preparation; claiming three victories including both the Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) and Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m). While allocated barrier 10, trainer Ciaron Maher is confident Mr O’Cierin’s running style will suit the wide gate and I hopeful of slight rain in the lead-up to the Doomben Cup.

3rd

Junoob ($5)

Confirmed to be partnered by leading 2014 autumn jockey Nash Rawiller this weekend, Junoob is likely to receive the run of the race in the Doomben Cup, having drawn one gate outside likely leader Leebaz. A standout performer since arriving to the care of trainer Chris Waller from Tom Dascombe’s stables in Britain, the Haafhd gelding has arguably hit peak condition over his seven most recent appearances on track; claiming four victories including both the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) and Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m). allocated the ideal barrier 3, Junoob represents a great chance of an upset this weekend and is more than worth a wager in the 2014 Doomben Cup.
