Glass Harmonium Ready For 2011 Doomben Cup Win

May 19th, 2011

Jockey Hugh Bowman believes that Glass Harmonium will be the one to beat in the Group 1 Doomben Cup this Saturday May 21, 2011.

Bowman feels that Glass Harmonium may be the first horse to beat My Kingdom Of Fife in Australia.

The jockey feels that the longer distance of the 2011 Doomben Cup will give Glass Harmonium a real advantage over his competitors.

“He could improve five lengths,” Bowman said.

“I am not saying that he definitely will, but he gave me the impression that he is open to improvement.”

The five-year-old finished second to My Kingdom Of Fife in his first horse racing Australia start in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes last start.

“He raced a bit fresh in the Hollindale,” Bowman said.

“He got bumped around a touch in the run which didn’t help.

“I think he has more room for improvement than My Kingdom Of Fife considering he was first-up over 1800m.”

Glass Harmonium is currently the $4 second favourite for the 2011 Doomben Cup at Luxbet.

TAB Sportsbet spokesman Glenn Munsie said that a win for Glass Harmonium would not be a good result for the bookies.

“He is clearly our worst way, that is why we have made him equal favourite with My Kingdom Of Fife so we can try and get some money out of the other runners,” Mr Munsie said.

Anthony Cummings’ has two runners in the Doomben Cup, represented by both Zavite and Shadows In The Sun.

Cummings will most likely scratch the three-year-old Shadows In The Sun if the showers forecast for Brisbane over the coming days eventuate.

“The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting showers for the rest of the week but the weather has been fine and the track is good at the moment,” Cummings said.

“Shadows In The Sun is up in Brisbane but I will be more than happy to scratch him and wait a week to run in the Grand Prix Stakes against his own age if the showers fall.

“He is a much better dry tracker and if I am forced to run on a rain-affected track I’d prefer to be doing it against three-year-olds instead of older horses.”

Zavite will run no-matter the track conditions, with his trainer confident he will run a good race.

“He is there fit and well and will run an honest race like he always does,” Cummings said.
