2011 Doomben Cup – Final Field & Barrier Draw

May 18th, 2011

While 47 horses originally nominated for the 2011 Doomben Cup, only ten have accepted for a place in the final field.

The Group 1 Doomben Cup will run this Saturday May 21, 2011, over a distance of 2,020 metres.

Worth $500,000 in prize money, the 2011 Doomben Cup will jump as Race 7 at 3.45pm (AEST) at Doomben Racecourse.

Included in the 2011 Doomben Cup final field is Daniel Morton’s Scenic Shot.

Scenic Shot finished third in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes on May 7 behind two other 2011 Doomben Cup competitors; My Kingdom Of Fife and Glass Harmonium.

The eight-year-old gelding, who has won more than $2.63 million in prize money during his career, appears to be in his best form, winning the Listed Winning Edge Member’s Handicap at Eagle Farm two starts back.

Scenic Shot won the Doomben Cup in his last attempt in 2009 and will be looking to do the same on Saturday.

The Scenic gelding has drawn barrier two for the 2011 Doomben Cup and will be ridden by jockey Shane Scriven.

Also amongst the 2011 Doomben Cup final field is Anthony Cummings’ Zavite, who won the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes earlier this preparation.

Since then, the eight-year-old has been unable to finish better that eighth, but will be looking to change that when he runs in the 2011 Doomben Cup.

Zavite has earned more than $1.9 million in prize money and has won 11 of his 62 career starts.

The Zabeel gelding has drawn barrier six for the 2011 Doomben Cup and will be ridden by jockey Chris Munce.

Also included in the 2011 Doomben Cup final field are Chris Waller’s Triple Honour and John Wallace’s Shoot Out.
